terminus1525.ca is an online arts community for emerging artists in Canada.
The Challenge
The Canada Council for the Arts, with support from Heritage Canada, identified the need to create a space for young artists to collaborate with one another and showcase their work in an environment that was for and by young people. The Canada Council challenged zinc Roe to create a bi-lingual online community that would offer Canadian artists a way to display and discuss their work in a free and unencumbered place.
The Solution
Tapping into our connections with young, creative people across the country, zinc Roe created an online community that featured a suite of custom community tools that redefine how artists showcase their talents. Determined to give ownership of this community to community members, the team took a user-first approach to building this site.
Through tools such as gallery spaces, blogs, forums, graffiti boards that are controlled by members themselves, artists are able to showcase photography, painting, writing, music, video and animation. The project extended the online experience with broadcast video interviews, combination offline and online exhibits, a print magazine, 14 online feature articles showcasing young artists and marketing collateral including print advertising, postering campaigns, stickers, postcards and buttons.
The Result
Since the site launch, terminus1525 houses over 25,000 works of art from more than 5,000 artists and continues. The site continues to be cited as a model for social networking in the Arts.
